Real wild child
If you’re a regular visitor to the city’s street food markets or the party series Burgers and Hip Hop at Prince Charles (Berlin’s HOTTEST way of celebrating the art of patty grilling) you will most definitely have met our friends from Hirsch & Eber. The three brothers Sebastian, Jasper and Matthias come from a family of hunters and with their food truck they have conquered the hearts (and tummies) of foodies in Berlin and beyond. On November 14th, they opened their first joint in Prenzlauerberg. The menu at Hirsch & Eber offers the best of venison and game meats in form of burgers, sous-vide dishes and traditional Currywurst. The meat is sourced from regional forests and from trusted traders only. Appropriate and free-range livestock keeping, fair production methods and sustainability are imperative criteria. All further ingredients are acquired from regional and organic production. Buns and sauces are all homemade. The Classic Burger, for example, comes with 100% wild boar, a home made bun, cranberry-mustard sauce, onions cooked in port wine, Emmentaler and beetroot sprouts. The Gourmet Burger is served with Cumberland sauce, slices of fresh pear, candied walnuts and mild goat’s cheese. The vegetarian version comes with Portobello mushrooms or baked sheep’s cheese. Sides that are not really sides are absolutely delicious, for example the excellent sea salt and thyme fries. The Hirsch & Eber food truck is still going strong and in December, it will be stopping at the Lucia Christmas Market on the grounds of the Kulturbrauerei, too. Hail to the chiefs of meat!
