Flowers on the wall

Flowers on the wall

Ikebana is the ancient Japanese art of arranging floral elements in harmonious compositions. Designer Fabio Milito and the Paula Studio have teamed up to develop a product that has left us nothing less than speechless due to its utter simplicity and beauty. Elkebana resemble a vegan hunting trophy in the shape of a stag, deer, or tiger head – except that no animal had to lose its life. Each Elkebana is one of a kind and is hand crafted with plywood and hand blown glass. Once on a wall, it brings life to every room offering endless creative possibilities. Chop and change floral add-ons to your heart’s content and turn this trophy into a continuously changing colourful creature. Elkebana is a wonderful and very versatile decorative element for your walls and at the same time it is also a beautiful protest-product against animal killing and trophy hunts. On that note: make your own horned friend! We’re giving away an Elkebana to the most animal friendly one among you. Send an email titled TWELVE-POINTER to hurra@muxmaeuschenwild.de.

Cornerstone

Cornerstone

Benjamin Clementine is a genius, an elemental force of music, a revelation. We’ll just leave it at that for now. The young Englishman recently still earned his pay as a musician on the streets of Paris, and when he sings, it is with such passion and fervour, his voice leaving you completely spellbound and questioning everything you believed in just moments before. It’s distinctive, intense and always surprising. For weeks, we played his song Cornerstone (and watched the video) over and over again in our office. On December 12th, Benjamin Clementine will be playing at Hamburg’s Mojo, and on December 15th, he’ll be on stage at the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic. A passionate experience hard to beat. Tickets are 36 Euro each, both concerts start at 8pm. To mark the occasion – and out of sheer anticipation – we’re giving away a pair of tickets for both cities. Send an email titled ‚FROM THE EAST TO THE WEST‘ tohurra@muxmaeuschenwild.de and let us know which city you’re in. We’ll see you there.

Don’t shed this winter coat

mmw_happystaffy1

Don’t shed this winter coat

Our little four-legged friends can be rather sensitive to cold weather. We see them shaking, shivering and freezing on the S-Bahn or on frosty winter streets. If they’re lucky, their caring owners will provide them with something to keep them warm. And if they’re really lucky – and master or mistress has a sense of style – they might just get a pretty little piece made by happystaffy. The small Berlin-based label was born out of necessity: When company founder Aleksandra Bettin adopted troubled Staffordshire-Lady Chica from the animal shelter nine years ago, she was dissatisfied with the quality and fitting of available doggy-wear. Her biggest unanswered question remained: Where can we get stylish and high-quality clothes for larger breeds? She came up with the answer herself: happystaffy manufactures custom-tailored (!) winter jackets for Wolfhounds, bomber jackets for Boxers, trench coats for Terriers and – our fashion-favourite – the lumberjack jacket for the rough and tough canine family members. The collection was designed by the skilled hands of Anna Boettke (we recently had the chance to benefit from her qualities when she supported as a stylist at a major shooting). And here, some first-paw feedback: Bulldog Simon is a happy camper – when he comes to visit us, he loves whizzing around our office in his swish cardigan.

Selosoda goes Germany

Selosoda goes Germany

Lovely Laura Zumbaum virtually created the ultimate refreshment of the year made from sun-dried coffee cherries. selosoda is different, new and delicious. It’s perfect for mixing drinks and cocktails while also containing as much natural caffeine as two espressi. (RB, you lose!) After months of product development and optimization, Laura is ready to take the next big step and wants to offer selosoda to the entire German-speaking market. In order to so, she’s launched a crowd funding campaign via Startnext pursuing a great vision: increasing the yield of organic and fair-trade Arabica plants by 50% with the processing of coffee cherry shells. Good for farmers, good for the environment, good for us. Should you still be looking for unusual Christmas gifts, you could, for example, support this tremendous project by buying the selo package for connoisseurs or the selo-carefree-kit. Have a look here:www.startnext.com/selosoda. We’ll keep fingers crossed and – of course – diligently drink selosoda!

Say yes to tak tak!

Say yes to tak tak!

180.000 people of Polish origin live in Berlin. There are a few Polish restaurants in town, Polish supermarkets, Polish beer at the Späti and Polish music. But what we’ve been missing so far is a decent Polish takeout joint – until now. Tonight at 6.30pm, „tak tak – Polish Deli“, the new Pierogi Paradise in Mitte, opens its doors on Brunnenstraße 5. And it seems this idea is uhm…very popular to say the least: Although tak tak’s facebook page reveals absolutely nothing concerning concept or offers of tonight’s event, more than 5.000 people (remember Spargelfest?!) have already signed up for the opening. So if you should find yourself stuck in a crowd of people somewhere between Rosentahler Platz and Weinbergpark that’s because everybody there will be trying to get their hands on the delicious handmade organic dumplings served in all kinds of traditional and modern interpretations at this teeny tiny little place in Mitte. But don’t worry, tak tak is here to stay and from tomorrow on, the deli will be serving scrumptious and substantial take-away on a regular basis. tak tak’s menu is as diverse as the Polish cuisine itself and in addition to Polish dumplings filled with meat or vegetables it also features traditional stews (Polish Bigos) and lovely aromatic Pierogi filled with fromage blanc and warm fruit compote. Smacznego, as we like to say in Poland!

I can see the light

mmw_sygns

I can see the light

Tomorrow night, our friends at sygns invite you to join them at Box Freiraum in Friedrichshain for the one-of-a-kind charity event. The artistic event titled “Turn the lights back on“ mixes Arabic history with light art installation to help raise funds for people in Syria. Besides music and social exchange, the centre of attention is the gigantic neon artwork displaying the poem “The drowned shadow of Ahmed“ written by Syrian writer and refugee Ramy Al-Asheq. The poem tells the fictitious story of Achmed who drowned in the ocean while trying to leave his homeland. The poem consists of exactly one hundred Arabic words. Each word has been individually shaped by sygns to form a neon installation and all of them are available for purchase during the event. At the beginning of the evening the entire artwork will be switched off while then each word sold for charity will be individually illuminated – the aim being to eventually let the complete poem shine in all its glory and literally make each word truly visible. All of the funds raised by the sales of the neon-words (ranging from 80 to 120 Euro) go to Save The Children, the leading organisation supporting Syrian children in need. Everyone taking “his” or “her” word home to find a new place for it will always remember that it is part of a greater whole, part of a collective act of support and solidarity. Not only will this adorn your walls, it will also make you happy. Chapeau to this positive and inspiring project!

Facing the insanity of the world

MMW_SalmanRushdie.61498785d27b3f335d4f201da048cb98

Facing the insanity of the world

The Satanic Verses, published by Indian-born author Salman Rushdie in 1988, prompted Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomenei to issue a fatwa against Rushdie, calling on all Muslims worldwide to murder the writer. Although all members of the Islamic Cooperation disagreed with the death sentence, the bounty on Rushdie’s head has been raised twice since and now lies at 3,3 million dollars. Over the years, Salman Rushdie has learned to look over his shoulder but at the same time, Rushdie is a man that will not be intimidated, despite living the life of a fugitive. Rushdie’s’ literary oeuvre includes the novels „Midnight’s Children“, „The Ground Beneath Her Feet“ and “The Moor’s Last Sigh“ and belongs to the greatest what the world of literature has to offer. Like no other, Rushdie inexhaustibly interweaves mythical fairy tales creating tremendously brilliant, inspiring and moving masterpieces. It’s what you call „magic realism“. Here’s a little taste of his newest novel: Salman Rushdie tells a timeless love story in a world ruled by senselessness. Dunia, the princess of light, falls in love with the philosopher Ibn Ruschd, and bears him many children, who make their way out into the world. Ibn Ruschd is classified as an enemy of God; his adversary is the deeply faithful Islamic prophet Ghazali. The spirits of both men engage in a fight. The struggle of faith against rationality begins, and brews such a terrible storm that a chasm opens in the universe, through which the destructive Djin is able to enter. The existence of the world is at stake. Dunia decides to help the people. This is a truly spellbinding work of fiction yet undoubtedly an allegory of the current state of the world that could not be more accurate. On Saturday, 21st November, Salman Rushdie will join the reading of his new novel at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. Johnna Adjorán will be the host of the evening and actor Tom Wlaschiha will speak too. We can’t think of a more inspiring Saturday-night-cocktail and are giving away two tickets to the particularly interested among you. Send an email titled A SEA OF STORIES to hurra@muxmaeuschenwild.de.

Through space and time

Through space and time

Inhale, exhale, feel the moment. Yoga in itself is wonderful and since it’s mostly about a journey to your inner self, it doesn’t really matter where you practice. But sometimes there are places that can help us to relax and let things go and maybe even give our spiritual journey a new direction. The König Galerie in the former St. Agnes Church in Kreuzberg is a place just like that. The massive concrete church interior is like a resonating sounding box and feels like an extension of oneself. A truly magical place! Tonight, Yoga returns to St. Agnes and none other than marvellous Eva Kazcor (whom we introduced a couple of weeks ago) will be leading the session. Doors open half an hour before the class starts at 6.45 p.m. Enjoy this 75 minute session for just 10 Euros. Inhale, exhale, and experience the moment.
