YO, SISSY!

Yo! Sissy is Berlin’s first queer music festival and will be kicking it into high gear right from the start. Taking place July 24th to 26th at three awesome venues across the city (SchwuZ, Neue Heimat and SO36), it will be packed with up to 50 performances by local heroes and international iconic artists such as Peaches, JD Samson, The Hidden Cameras, Crystal Waters and many more. There’ll also be plenty of surprise performances, dj sets, art, drinks and gourmet food and a big helping of Berlin’s over the top nightlife extravaganza. Gay, lesbian, transgender or not sure yet – who care’s?! It’s time to celebrate diversity – the Berlin way! And at the end of the night, we’ll all be equally trashed and overjoyed… Single day tickets start at 26,50 Euro and a 3 day festival pass is available for 67,53 EURO. We’re giving away a pair of tickets for the big Saturday night bash, so send an email titled „WE ROCK“ to hurra@muxmaeuschenwild.de.

Non-Stop Now

Non-Stop Now

So, what if there was a festival that combined all aspects of our contemporary and holistic lifestyle that is (all about) yoga, selfness, spirituality, materiality, community and pleasure with a splash of intellectual stimuli, triggered personal and social transformation processes and yet was none the less en vogue? Well, that is actually exactly what the FORVER NOW Festival – taking place for the first time from September 3rd till 6th at Neue Heimat – is all about. Or in their own words: It’s about „knowing where I stand. Understanding what I need to do. And doing it. “Hmm, that might seem easier than it sometimes is being caught up in an „I-yoge-therefore-I-am-reality“ – all too often focused on self-optimization and self-expression. Thinking esotericism? Well, think again! At the FOREVER NOW Festival, it all boils down to a modern, reflected spiritual practice. It’s about creating an approach characterized by openness, awareness and passion. Half-assed solutions just won’t do. Transformation begins in the individual, but at a certain point, progress is only possible together. Each festival day begins with morning yoga and meditation. Afterwards, keynote presentations held by very bright thinkers inspire us with new approaches and concepts. In workshops focused on various socially relevant topics (such as reform of the education system, female leadership, and refugees), ideas will be developed and discussed in collaboration with top-class movers and shakers to directly apply new approaches. Enjoying yummy street food at concerts (e.g. Patrice, Tentakel von Delphi and Taksim Trio) and parties the new thoughts and experiences collected will resound deep into the night. So, let’s sum up: yoga, input, output, art, music, street food plus party! Where do I sign? Right here (http://www.forever-now-festival.com/tickets/)! Tickets are available from 29€ (music only), 69€ (one-day ticket) and 179€ for the complete festival. Ticket sales have started.

Matthias Ruff

Matthias Ruff

Das 2 Minuten Interview

Matthias Ruff describes himself as an initiator and catalyst for transformation projects. Let’s translate: Matthias is cool and does fantastic things. His latest coup being the Forever Now Festival, which is all about self-perception, self-fulfillment, mindfulness and fitness and will take place for the first time this autumn at Neue Heimat in Berlin. The best yoga teachers, mentors and media will be gathering. Forever in the moment, forever now. Find out here about what else he does when he’s not smuggling revolutionaries from Egypt or cooking children’s meals. And, of course, it goes without saying that we also asked him about the meaning of life. ;)

Transformationsfestival/Neue Heimat
Who or what inspires you?
Good art. I last came across some during the Gallery Weekend at the Ngorongoro exhibition in Berlin-Weißensee.

When was the last time you did a good deed for someone and what was it?
I try to do good everyday. Today, I was there for a friend and colleague and just listened to her for half an hour.

And when was the last time you did something good for yourself?
I try to do that everyday, too. My daily yoga and meditation practice treats me to something good and valuable every day.

Tell us your favourite magical place!
The Sinai. This mountain desert in Egypt has a magical power.

What is the meaning of life?
It is important to find the meaning of life again and again, to keep redefining it over and over. I can only answer the question on an existential level — and not with concepts of philosophy or the financial world’s motives for profit. For me the meaning of life is the reality of being and becoming, of space and form. It’s the differentiated experience of this deep creative power of connectedness, unity and love — and letting it unfold its full impact.

If you could change the world over night, where would you start?
I would immediately start changing the food industry. We throw away about 50% of food in Germany while people are starving in other parts of the world. In my opinion that is the No.1 scandal. And it’s caused by the system.

What is your generation’s greatest problem?
Unfortunately many are at a standstill and to this day, sticking to approaches from the nineties.

Which book, film and record should everyone have read, seen and listened to?
The underground techno record „The Rings of Saturn“ by X-102 has stuck with me for many years. Gilles Deleuz’ book „Negotiations“ has had a lasting effect on me. It is extremely rich in content — it’s practically the complete twentieth century squeezed into one book. The film „Pride“ has recently touched me. It is also a very funny film about transformation.

You will be reborn as what?
I’ll stick to Franz Beckenbauer and his legendary interview in the BILD paper: I’d like to be reborn as a woman.

With which celebrity (dead or alive) would you like to have a yogi tea?
With Rainald Goetz. But I’d prefer an after-work beer.

If we came to visit you at home, what would you cook for us?
Chicken wings with mashed potatoes. It’ll sort of be like a kid’s meal.

What are you afraid of?
Not getting enough sleep.

What should no one know about you?
About how we brought an injured and traumatised revolutionary from Egypt to Germany.

Which question should we have asked?
What is so exciting and sexy about silence and meditation?

Last Words:
Partial solutions are not real solutions. Anybody who wants to make a difference must see things in their entirety. That is why our festival consists of really quiet and very loud moments alike.

Something is brewing

mmw_Braufest

Something is brewing

Craft Beer is the word. In the motherland of beer the great hop culture is experiencing a true revival, lifting the regular brew into unknown flavourful spheres. The German Reinheitsgebot and natural ingredients are a top priority nonetheless. Craft beer is all about a laid-back and customer-oriented approach on a traditional product without the economic pressure of corporate structure. Hand crafted beer at its best. It’s about creating new flavours and experiences using different brewing methods and hop varieties. The diversity is close to the one found in wine-growing: colour, scent, flavour, aftertaste – it’s all there. From tomorrow on (yay, right on time for the holiday!) and until Sunday, the Berlin Brewery Festival will be held on the RAW grounds in Berlin Friedrichshain (a slightly different take on the subject compared to the mob at the Biermeile on Karl-Marx-Allee). A “Craft Beer Village”, between Badehaus Szimpla and Neue Heimat, will be home to 65 Berlin breweries and international craft beer makers for three days. The list of exhibitors reads like the who’s who of the craft beer scene – the German Breweries for instance, were carefully selected by the Berlin Beer Academy. There’ll be street food from the Village Market next door and a bunch of talks and tastings. Your beer will be served in an original Rastal „Craft Master One“ glass, available for a 2 Euro deposit. Hold on to it well – you’ll need it to taste your way through all 65 stalls. (The occasional glass of water might be good. And food. Remember to have some food.) If you fancy, you can let everyone know about your discoveries and favourite flavours: evaluate the beers you tasted on www.m.braufest-berlin.de. Okay, we already made our choice. Our personal favourite is named BRLO from Berlin. Fun fact: When you enter the grounds, you’ll get a festival card that works like a debit card – fill it up with the desired amount and you’re good to go. No more searching your pockets for change or wondering where all your money went the next morning… Cheers to that!
