State of Affairs

When the STATE Science Festival first gathered scientists and artists from all sorts of disciplines and genres in Berlin two years ago in order to deal with the overall topic of ‚time‘, an unprecedented playful and fascinating programme of films, workshops, panels, art installations, performances and audio visual dream worlds. Two years had to pass for the next edition of this great spectacle somewhere between education, art and scientific expedition. And this time, it’s going to get emotional – literally. ‚STATE of Emotion – The Sentimental Machine‘ is title and motto of this edition that invites you to dive deep into a see of emotions, to interactively and playfully discover emotional research, neuroscience, experimental psychology and artificial intelligence. A place of inspiration is being created on the festival grounds in the Kühlhaus at the Gleisdreieck, a place of critical reflection and creative exchange between science, culture and the public as well as established academic institutions and protagonists of the young open-science-subculture, made up of independent makers, developers, artists, scientists and creatives. Some highlights of the programme are an appearance by Margaret A. Boden, international originator of the field of artificial creativity, the premier of a new work by the renowned American concept artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, as well as a screening of the documentary „Lo And Behold: Reveries Of The Connected World“ (2016) by the legendary film-maker Werner Herzog. All this is already starting tonight at 7.30 p.m. with the big opening party at the Museum für Naturkunde. Looking for the not-to-be-missed-event of the outbound year? This is it. We’re giving away one pair of tickets for the entire festival to the particularly emotional amongst you. Send us an email headlining ‚POINT OF EMOTION‘ to hurra@muxmaeuschenwild.de.

Ladies and Gentleman, Children of all ages…

Ladies and Gentleman, Children of all ages…

From September 4th-13th, the circus is coming to town! Not excited yet? Yes, we know the feeling: those childhood days are long gone and we’re not that easy to please anymore. This circus, however, is quite different and rather special. It’s all about dance, theatre, acrobatics and artistic performances instead of lame clown acts and dressage. For ten days, the Berlin Circus Festival will feature a stunning programme with internationally renowned productions, spectacular shows and young artists from all over Europe. Acts include the extremely successful Slapstick Sonata, Plateau Partagé and Vixen from Scandinavia. On September 7th, the Open Stage will guarantee an evening full of surprises. On September 7th and 8th, four Cirk La Putyka artists invite daredevils to take part in a teeterboard-workshop. Work in progress is the theme on September 10th: various artists will share insights into their work and experiment with volunteers. All shows, weather permitting, will take place outdoors on the Schatzinsel at Köpenicker Straße. In case of rain, the good old circus tent will keep us dry. Doors open 1,5 h before each show begins. There’ll also be bars, food stalls and plenty of bizarre things to admire. We are excited and looking forward to this cirque nouveau! Yes, this is for grownup kids, too.
