The 2 minutes-Interview

Right back at ‘cha! A few weeks ago Julia was interviewed for EDITION F, currently the most important and successful female media platform in Germany. We simply turned the tables and asked the founders Susann and Nora a couple of rather frank questions. Find about their last words, their take on inspiration, fate and different perspectives. P.S. What was that about the end of the world? And what have Beyoncé, Helmut Schmidt, Goethe and the Dalai Lama have to do with it all? Presumably nothing. Presumably… #43

Name: Susann Hoffmann / Nora-Vanessa Wohlert
Age: 33 / 30
City: Berlin
Job: Founder & girl Friday / Founder
Shoe size: 39 / 39
Favourite cliché: Feminism. A cliché I like to live up to.
Contact: EDITION F / @NoraVanessa on Twitter and Instagram

What do you do first thing in the morning?
Susann: I’m trying to break the habit of checking my phone as soon as I wake up.
Nora:  Unfortunately – and this really is a terrible habit – I reach for my phone first. Check emails, appointments, Facebook. Read what’s going on in the world and find out what could be important for EDITION F or for me personally. Then I put on some music and start the day. Somehow I find my morning shower more relaxing, if I know what the day has in store for me.

What’s the main difference between men and women?
Susann: The perspective.
Nora: Women talk more openly about mistakes. Men usually don’t do that until you get to them better.

Who is your role model?
Susann: I admire different things in different people.
Nora: I couldn’t name just one person. I feel like I meet people that inspire me every week. And they are a role model for different things. People like my mother, Susann, my boyfriend or Sheryl Sandberg.

Why can only women save the world?
Susann: Oh, is that so?
Nora: I don’t believe in that. I think we can only do that together. Of course, men can’t do it on their own either. But they don’t have to, do they?

How did you grow up?
Susann: I was born in East Germany. And although the wall came down when I was seven, I still carry part of that world with me. My childhood in three words: sheltered, loving and caring. Thank you mum and dad.
Nora: For many years I lived in a community with my parents and friends. Everything was quite political and I was free to make my own decisions. We lived in Linden – I call it Hannover’s Kreuzberg, even if that is a bit of a bluff. It was only when I moved out with 27, that I actually lived on my own for the first time. I always had a lot of people around me.

Are you a good cook?
Susann: Yes. I love cooking, especially for a lot of people. But my boyfriend hated all the washing-up we have to do afterwards, so two weeks ago, I got my very first dishwasher.
Nora: I’d really like to say yes. Though I am lot better than I was about a year ago. And I enjoy cooking, too. But my boyfriend is definitely the better cook.

Close your eyes and think of something nice. What comes to mind?
Susann: Right now I’m on a train to Bremen. It’s 7am. I’m thinking about my bed. Normally I’d be thinking of nature.
Nora: The ocean, friends, sun.

You will be reborn as what?
Susann: A monkey.
Nora: I can’t really decide whether I’d rather be a bird or a man. But I definitely love the idea of changing my perspective.

Who do you call most often?
Susann: My boyfriend. Closely followed by my mum.
Nora: Susann, my boyfriend and my mum.

Do you believe in fate?
Susann: Yes and no. I’m sure there are things that are meant to be, but I don’t think I really like the idea predestination – I’d feel too much like a puppet on a string.
Nora: Yes. But I also believe we have the power to influence what happens.

Name another word for synonym:
Susann: Equivalent.
Nora: Tantamount.

With which famous person (dead or alive) would you like to have coffee?
Susann: Beyoncé.
Nora: I can’t make up my mind between Beyoncé, Helmut Schmidt, Goethe and the Dalai Lama.

What would you cook for us if we visited you at home?
Susann: In summer, I’d make a gilt-head bream with grilled vegetables. In winter, I’d make Osso Bucco.
Nora: Pasta. Really good pasta.

What are you afraid of?
Susann: At the moment, I’m afraid Germany is loosing its head in the refugee issue. I just can’t accept xenophobia.
Nora: I’m afraid of my family and friends having to suffer. And I’m afraid of failing. But I’m less afraid of that than founding my own business.

When did you last try something new and what was it?
Susann: Surfing in Portugal, two weeks ago.
Nora: Oh yes, there is something completely new. Something I used to think was really stupid: standing in front of the camera. Together with the YouTube channel Ellevant, Susann and I have created a new format. #Shesgotit. It’s a about strong women. Watch the intro here.

What should no one know about you?
Susann: What goes on in my mind sometimes.
Nora: People close to me know pretty much everything. People that aren’t, don’t really need to know.

Which question should we have asked?
Susann: Which question would you never answer?
Nora: I’ve been thinking about this now for really a long time and I’m very glad I don’t have to do an interview with myself.

Last Words:
Susann: That was fun! But enough for now.
Nora: What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
