Home is where the art is

They say that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And when heart and mind of the beholder say it is art, it is. What we’re saying is that art is not only a playground for artists but also for those that want to engage in it. Observing art helps to develop new ideas, gain new perspectives and sharpen our senses. »100for10« is a wonderful project that was launched last year and offers affordable access to international art. 100for10 is a series of books featuring prints by contemporary artists coming from different artistic fields such as illustration, photography, graphics, fine arts and fashion. Each edition has 100 pages. Each edition costs 10 Euros. And no, we’re not talking about a cheap brochure that’ll end up in the bin, but we’re not promoting one of these boring glossy coffee table books either. The person behind this idea is none other than Lars Harmsen – a partner of the Munich based agency Melville, professor for typography and editorial design and director of »Slanted Publishers« – ensuring the quality of each and every print. So why do they only cost 10 Euros? Because each piece of art is printed in black and white and on demand only. 25 per cent of sales go directly to artists like the New York-based Thomas Lail who elaborately transforms photocopied and re-photocopied image-fragments into large-scaled collages that, in turn, tell new stories. On February 18th, the 100for10 collection will be on display when the sofa-specialists from Sitzfeldt open their new showroom in Munich’s Werksviertel. A perfect match: lounging around on comfy sofas, sipping on champagne and enjoying art. It doesn’t really get any better than that.
