Juliane Rump

The 2 Minute Interview

Juliane Rump is from the media city of Hamburg, where she used to establish facts for publishing houses such as Gruner+Jahr, the Jahreszeitenverlag, the Klett Group and Springer Science as an author and editor. Eight years ago, Juliane moved to the German capital, from where she is now creating her very own fantastic and brand new print quarterly called Libertine Magazine. The claim? „In Love With Women“. You can support Juliane and her marvellous crew by joining the Crowdfunding campain at startnext. Libertine is a society magazine that is made especially for women and revolves around the subjects of love, life and freedom. Speaking of freedom – what was that again? Let’s find out…

Name: Juliane Rump
Age: 40
Location: Berlin
Job: founder and editor-in-chief of Libertine magazine
Shoe size: 38,5
Favourite author: It would be shameful to confine myself to one name here.
Contact: juliane.rump@libertine-mag.com

Please describe yourself in three words. A tough wimp with a big dose of idealism. (Please put the words tough, wimp and idealism in bold type.) ;)

What is the biggest problem of your generation? Still being too afraid and choosing security over freedom. Especially times like these make it clear just how precious freedom actually is.
What does freedom mean to you?Freedom means to be free of social restraints and fears, being free to choose how to live and who to love. Unfortunately, not yet a matter of course.

Who or what inspires you? All the extraordinary and striking women of the world that regard society from new perspectives and accomplish great things in all sorts of different sectors. We’ve portrayed quite a number of them for our Libertine magazine, e.g. Hengameh Yaghoobifarah, Isabell Šuba, Jina Khayyer, Jouanne Hassoun…

What qualities do you appreciate in people? Freethinkers, enthusiasm paired with energy and initiative.

What you cannot get enough of? Love and friendship. Women and girl power, of course. ;)

The best invention of mankind? Music and dancing… and vegan ice-cream.

Please edit: For one day, I would like to be… A deeply relaxed and enlightened yogi.

Which superhero power would you like to have? I’d like to be a super-hero-fairy, and turn the whole of humanity into deeply empathetic beings with the wave of my wand. For me, empathy is the key to peace, love and justice.

With which famous personality would you like to go out for coffee? Pippi Longstocking. To make plans to save the world.
If we visited you at home, what would you cook for us?
To tell the truth, I’m a terrible cook. But for you, of course, I would rise above and create a super-trouper vegan menu.

What are you afraid of? Of great stupidity and narrow-mindedness.

When was the last time you did something for the first time and what was it? I started six months ago and hopefully will not finish for a long time to come: Launch a new magazine for women and ignore doubting voices. Print is still alive! ;)

What should no one know about you? Of whom I have a poster hanging in my locker…

Which question should we have asked? When is the Libertine release party? #SurreptitiousAdvertising #LibertineMagazin

Jens Hofmayer

The 2 minutes-Interview

Nobody rolls their RRRR’s as nice as designer and communications guy Jens Hofmeyer. And the best part about it is that Jens is not even from Franconia or any other lovely r-rolling region. He was born in Mexico (one wouldn’t tell) and grew up in Uruguay, Australia, South Africa (one wouldn’t think) and somewhere Spanish, too (one wouldn’t hear). A cosmopolitan and child of our time. Comprende. We met Jens when he just happened to stumble into our office (then still in Linienstraße) and quite shamelessly starting wrapping us around his little finger with his irresistible charm. Since then, we have worked on three projects together and more are certainly to come. Oh yes, he also gave us help and advice for our redesign. Props to Jens! Or as he would say: high fives, hugs and body checks.

Name: Jens Hofmayer

Age: 38

City: Berlin

Job: communications designer

Shoe size: 46/47

Favourite font: Bauer Grotesk Pro

Contact: www.jenshofmayer.com

What is good design?

Just a little in the appropriate place with the right amount of oomph.

Who should work with you?

People that need help finding their orientation and understanding their core values, or that is to say create them. Small and medium sized companies that intend to build up a brand.

What was your greatest success?

Getting an A in math in seventh grade. I only ever got Cs and Ds before.

What aren’t you good at?

Networking at the flick of a switch. And spelling. And math. Sea above. (Ha, that was funny! editor’s note)

What’s the background image on your phone or computer screen at the moment?

A swan: head down, tail up.

What are you proud of?

That I’ve been coping without sweets for two weeks.

Your favourite swear word?

I tend to stick to the classics: Asshole.

Where were you born, where did you grow up?

Born in Mexico City. Raised in Uruguay, Australia, South Africa and Germany. And no, my father was not a diplomat.

How would your mother describe you?

A chaotic guy that hasn’t really grown up yet and is always cooking up some crazy scheme.

And your Ex?

Best friend ever! ;)

How can you tell that you’ve grown up?

I make plans.

Tell us joke!

Um, can I add telling jokes to „What aren’t you good at?”

Which which famous personality would you like to have coffee?

Well, I’d love to meet…err, Goofy. Does that count? John Cage would be pretty cool though, too.

What would you cook for us if visited you at home?

Uh-oh. Cooking… ahem. How about I invite you over for whiskey instead? Trust me, when I say you’re better off that way.

What are you afraid of?

Of being too afraid. Oh, and heights aren’t my cup of tea either. Especially not when climbing the Alps, as I found out this year.

What would you change if you had the power to?

An unconditional basic income and a pound of chocolate for everybody! As a basic principle people would welcome each other with a warm hug. And while we’re at it, I’d also ban racism and poverty. Or is that asking too much?

What should no one know about you?

The things that go on in my head. (Here’s a hint: There’s loads of confetti, a big disco ball and lots of dancing. And rainbows and balloons. And cheerleaders. (And where the hell are all the unicorns? editors note)

Which question should we have asked?

How easy is it being a designer with red-green colour blindness?

Jannes Vahl

Jannes Vahl

The 2 minutes-Interview

Jannes Vahl is half from Oldenburg and half from Hamburg. The latter is where he put up shop two days after finishing school. Good for him, and good for Hamburg! After writing an incredible number of almost exactly 2,300 articles as an intern, trainee, freelance editor and editor-in-chief, posing for nude photos for freenet and his training as managing assistant in advertising, he and his best friend Joko founded an advertising company and probably the greatest charity project ever: clubkinder e.V. The association organizes unusual fundraising events to help fight social problems in Hamburg. Their newest project is Help Here e.V. Read what Jannes has to say about, life, love, rock ’n’ roll, super powers and dealing with tamed giant ducks. #theworldneedsmorejannes

Name: Jannes Vahl

Age: 34

City: Hamburg

Job: manager of Polycore advertising agency / head of clubkinder e.V.

Shoe size: 44 2/3 (fairtrade Chucks)

Favourite album: many, but if I had to choose: „Ten“ by Pearl Jam

Contact: Yes, please.

jannes.vahl@polycore-agentur.de

Do you live in the right city?

Definitely. I like being in Vancouver, New York or Berlin once in a while. But my life is here.

What was the last thing that really moved you?

All of our charity projects. Otherwise we would not choose them.

Something you definitely want to accomplish in life?

Live. And maybe one of these days, have the feeling that humans are not the dumbest of all species.

Truth be told, what would you have never done without alcohol?

Luckily, there is an endless list of things: Meeting some of the best people, certain decisions and experiences would never have happened without Truth or Dare, night swimming or Rum and Coke.

If you were allowed one sin, which forbidden thing would you do?

Blow up the entire BILD publishing company. Erase all of its traces. While all the “editors” are at the Christmas party.

Did you do all of the things you wanted to in your youth?

None of them. Except for meeting Malte, Stefan and Joko. I never did drugs and didn’t have sex until the tender age of 19.

If not, what’s stopping you now?

I have a sex life. I’m still not really interested in drugs. So nothing is really stopping me. I find that some of the things that were big in the nineties actually were really good: youth, free time, fountain pens and values, for example.

How can someone wrap you around his or her finger?

With concert tickets, movie nights and social intelligence.

Which book, film and record should everyone have read, seen and listened to?

To each their own. But maybe something by Rocko Schamoni, Into the Wild, Lateralus and Nirvana »Live at Reading«

Which super power would you like to have?

I already have it.

Would you rather fight a duck as big as a horse, or a hundred horses as small as ducks?

The duck! I would tame it straight away – it can fly, run AND swim. Battlecat deluxe!

What would you cook for us if we visited you at home?

Sugar for absinthe.

What are you afraid of?

I’m not really afraid of anything, but the stupidity of some people is awful.

When did you last try something new and what was it?

On Tuesday. Number 19 on the menu of my favourite Asian restaurant.

What should no one know about you?

That I always liked Scotty Pippen just a little more than Jordan. How little rent I pay. Who I’m secretly in love with.

Which question should we have asked?

Who I’m secretly in love with.

Susann&Nora (Edition F)

Edition F

Susann&Nora from Edition F

The 2 minutes-Interview

Right back at ‘cha! A few weeks ago Julia was interviewed for EDITION F, currently the most important and successful female media platform in Germany. We simply turned the tables and asked the founders Susann and Nora a couple of rather frank questions. Find about their last words, their take on inspiration, fate and different perspectives. P.S. What was that about the end of the world? And what have Beyoncé, Helmut Schmidt, Goethe and the Dalai Lama have to do with it all? Presumably nothing. Presumably… #43

Name: Susann Hoffmann / Nora-Vanessa Wohlert
Age: 33 / 30
City: Berlin
Job: Founder & girl Friday / Founder
Shoe size: 39 / 39
Favourite cliché: Feminism. A cliché I like to live up to.
Contact: EDITION F / @NoraVanessa on Twitter and Instagram

What do you do first thing in the morning?
Susann: I’m trying to break the habit of checking my phone as soon as I wake up.
Nora:  Unfortunately – and this really is a terrible habit – I reach for my phone first. Check emails, appointments, Facebook. Read what’s going on in the world and find out what could be important for EDITION F or for me personally. Then I put on some music and start the day. Somehow I find my morning shower more relaxing, if I know what the day has in store for me.

What’s the main difference between men and women?
Susann: The perspective.
Nora: Women talk more openly about mistakes. Men usually don’t do that until you get to them better.

Who is your role model?
Susann: I admire different things in different people.
Nora: I couldn’t name just one person. I feel like I meet people that inspire me every week. And they are a role model for different things. People like my mother, Susann, my boyfriend or Sheryl Sandberg.

Why can only women save the world?
Susann: Oh, is that so?
Nora: I don’t believe in that. I think we can only do that together. Of course, men can’t do it on their own either. But they don’t have to, do they?

How did you grow up?
Susann: I was born in East Germany. And although the wall came down when I was seven, I still carry part of that world with me. My childhood in three words: sheltered, loving and caring. Thank you mum and dad.
Nora: For many years I lived in a community with my parents and friends. Everything was quite political and I was free to make my own decisions. We lived in Linden – I call it Hannover’s Kreuzberg, even if that is a bit of a bluff. It was only when I moved out with 27, that I actually lived on my own for the first time. I always had a lot of people around me.

Are you a good cook?
Susann: Yes. I love cooking, especially for a lot of people. But my boyfriend hated all the washing-up we have to do afterwards, so two weeks ago, I got my very first dishwasher.
Nora: I’d really like to say yes. Though I am lot better than I was about a year ago. And I enjoy cooking, too. But my boyfriend is definitely the better cook.

Close your eyes and think of something nice. What comes to mind?
Susann: Right now I’m on a train to Bremen. It’s 7am. I’m thinking about my bed. Normally I’d be thinking of nature.
Nora: The ocean, friends, sun.

You will be reborn as what?
Susann: A monkey.
Nora: I can’t really decide whether I’d rather be a bird or a man. But I definitely love the idea of changing my perspective.

Who do you call most often?
Susann: My boyfriend. Closely followed by my mum.
Nora: Susann, my boyfriend and my mum.

Do you believe in fate?
Susann: Yes and no. I’m sure there are things that are meant to be, but I don’t think I really like the idea predestination – I’d feel too much like a puppet on a string.
Nora: Yes. But I also believe we have the power to influence what happens.

Name another word for synonym:
Susann: Equivalent.
Nora: Tantamount.

With which famous person (dead or alive) would you like to have coffee?
Susann: Beyoncé.
Nora: I can’t make up my mind between Beyoncé, Helmut Schmidt, Goethe and the Dalai Lama.

What would you cook for us if we visited you at home?
Susann: In summer, I’d make a gilt-head bream with grilled vegetables. In winter, I’d make Osso Bucco.
Nora: Pasta. Really good pasta.

What are you afraid of?
Susann: At the moment, I’m afraid Germany is loosing its head in the refugee issue. I just can’t accept xenophobia.
Nora: I’m afraid of my family and friends having to suffer. And I’m afraid of failing. But I’m less afraid of that than founding my own business.

When did you last try something new and what was it?
Susann: Surfing in Portugal, two weeks ago.
Nora: Oh yes, there is something completely new. Something I used to think was really stupid: standing in front of the camera. Together with the YouTube channel Ellevant, Susann and I have created a new format. #Shesgotit. It’s a about strong women. Watch the intro here.

What should no one know about you?
Susann: What goes on in my mind sometimes.
Nora: People close to me know pretty much everything. People that aren’t, don’t really need to know.

Which question should we have asked?
Susann: Which question would you never answer?
Nora: I’ve been thinking about this now for really a long time and I’m very glad I don’t have to do an interview with myself.

Last Words:
Susann: That was fun! But enough for now.
Nora: What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Eva Kaczor

MMW_EvaKaczor_3

Eva Kaczor

The 2 minutes-Interview

We are a little bit in love with Eva. Why? Because her way of life and her attitude towards life so perfectly represent the connection of spirituality and lifestyle, which we and many others admire. Four years ago, she founded the very successful art blog ARTberlin.de giving the art scene in the German capitol a face and a voice. She teaches yoga every Wednesday at the König Gallery, St. Agnes in Kreuzberg and occasionally she likes to go to bed early to then electronically dance the night away. Yoga + Art + Techno = Eva. Any questions? Yes. Is synchronicity magic? Who is afraid of failure and why the hell have we never been to Tullum?

Name: Eva Kaczor
Age: 38
Wohnort: Berlin
Job:  yoga teacher and founder of ArtBerlin
Shoe size: 38
Favourite asana: each one does its magic
Contact: for Yoga, for art eva.kaczor@artberlin.de

What inspires you?
People. Especially the crazy ones. With all of their wonderful fears, hopes and passions.

What is good art?
Good art reminds you of something that is neither visible nor nameable. It reminds you of something that is very personal yet universally valid at the same time. Good art lets you feel a connection and most certainly it lets you feel true beauty. And beauty may be disturbingly ugly.

Your next vacation: yoga retreat, city trip or island hopping? And why?
To be honest, none of the three. Instead I’ll visit my shaman-friend in the jungle with my closest friends from Berlin, then meditate in a tree house in Costa Rica, go to a festival afterwards and pick up the healer community in Goa and take them back to Berlin to join the Agape Zoe Festival organized by my friend Tony.

Share a magical place anywhere in the world!
Tulum – three years ago.

What would you like to be better at?
Replacing fear with love.

Do you believe in fate?
I believe in synchronicity aka magic. Every encounter in life is an experience I need to grow. Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes it’s pretty damn hard.
What should everybody do at least once in his or her life?
Look yourself in the eye and say I love you. That’s a hard one…

What is the meaning of life? To hear and feel your soul and to live accordingly.

How do you keep your balance?
Every morning, I do a short but hard workout. Then I cleanse my body with yogic breathing techniques and prepare my mind for meditation. And: I dance to techno music with my friends as often as possible.

Which piece of art would you like to possess?
A wooden sculpture by Martin Eder.

When was the last time you did something good for yourself?
Luckily, every day – at the moment. Yesterday, for example, I just crawled back into bed at 4 pm.

What do you spend too much money on?
All the money I earn I invest in good food, plane tickets and trainings. Luckily that never seems be „too much“.

What would you cook for us if we visited you at home?
Oh God! I can make roasted pumpkin…and hummus!

What are you afraid of?
I’m afraid my fear could keep me from doing the things my soul whispers to me.

When was the last time you did something for the first time and what was it?
It feels like I do new things every day. But one of the greatest recent experiences was about two months ago, teaching a yoga class for the first time in the breath-taking St Agnes church that is part of GALERIE KÖNIG. Surrounded by art and with 50 Yogis. Since then, I’ve been doing it every Wednesday and it feels like a new experience every single time.

What should no one know about you?
Good question. Honestly, I’d like to share my weaknesses with more people. I’ll start with that right now: Sometimes, I have a strong fear of failure.

Which question should we have asked?
Which piece of advice would you have given little Eva 20 years ago? Answer: Absolutely everything that you have the slightest notion of and love will come true eventually. ;-)

Last Words:
Thank you for giving so many wonderful people a platform here.

Paul Aiden Perry

Paul Aiden Perry

The 2 minutes-interview

Paul Aidan Perry isn’t Paul Aidan Perry’s real name – it’s somehow different and only partially, or was it the other way round? Anyway, Paul is what’s hot right now in photography. We would even go as far as stating that he is one of our absolutely favourite photographers. Why?  He works with contemporary looks without hiding behind them. He delivers on point and then some. His images are about content, about discovery – he even manages to smuggle a small story into an editorial series. We got to know him in action, so to speak. He visited us in the studio and at home for BLONDE Magazine, camera in tow. If you’re interested in seeing how we live, you can see the whole story here. We had so much fun with him that we invited him and his girlfriend/muse Anna to stay for dinner. We can justifiably state that Paul is the vegetarian with the kinkiest preferences on this entire planet. Or what is your take on the Fry-Kebab – a kebab filled with nothing but french fries and garlic sauce? You just gotta love that. Oh, and in just one week we’ll be getting on a boat with him to shoot a campaign for a fabulous new client. But that’s all we’ll tell for now…

Name: Paul Aidan Perry
Age: 29
Location: Berlin
Job: Photographer & Retoucher
Shoe size: 47,5 bis 48,5
Favourite food: anything with potatoes
Contact: hello@paulaidanperry.com / paulaidanperry.com

What is your definition of beauty?
Function, straightforwardness and certainly perfection. Perfection is a wonderful repository of imperfection, by the way.

Who or what inspires you?
Unplanned moments  – there is no better source of inspiration.

Are you better at getting things started or finishing things?
I’m usually the all-in-or-nothing type – most of the time. I hate prototypes and always try to think of everything the first time round. That occasionally causes just a slight delay…

What makes a good picture?
There are two different approaches that impress me. Extremely reduced images or the precise moment.  Usually photo reportages find their way to me though.

Digital or analogue?
Whatever suits the moment best! I like both.

Why are you a photographer?
Do you want the sexy or the honest version?

Your biggest success so far?
To always keep questioning and optimizing my own work. So far so good.

What aren’t you good at all?
– Waiting a second
– Lying on the beach and doing nothing
– Sitting still
There is definitely a pattern…

What would you like to accomplish?
Always keep moving to change my perspective. Anything else is a bonus.

The strangest/funniest/craziest moment of your career?
A car smashed my brand-new camera, while I was trying to save a little kitten that was trapped in a window. I got to keep the kitten afterwards.

Share a magical place!
We have a tiny little room where we keep everything in black boxes, which are labelled just like at an archaeologic dig. The question is not whether I have it, but where.

Do you hang up your own photographs at home?
Yes, they were on special offer.

Can you sing?
I bought a guitar the other day.

Which personality would you like to portray?
All dictators in one single picture – like a class photo.

Which piece of art would you like to call your own?
I’d like to have a white marble gravestone.

What would you cook for us if we visited you at home?
Something with potatoes. You might be able to detect a pattern here…

What are you afraid of?
That changes everyday. In general, I don’t like rough surfaces. Textured paper is okay, I guess.

What super power would you like to have?
Being able to fly.

What should no one know about you?
Nobody should know that.

Which question should we have asked?
Why were you on the cover of a teenage magazine at the age of fifteen?

Last Words:
Too often, they are melodramatic. I love chocolate.

Stefan Reinhardt

The 2 Minutes-Interview

Stefan Reinhardt has turned his hobbies into a professional business and is well known throughout Berlin’s restaurant, club and party scene. He’s gone from party animal to organiser (Admiralspalast, Sommersafari), from clubber to club owner (Club Raumklang) and from culinarian to restaurant-owner (Dae Mon). Starting next Saturday, he’ll also be cooking for the Cantina at Bar 1000. What?! Right on! On top of this, Stefan is extremely good-hearted and a really cool dude – despite bovine testicles and Little Red Riding Hood. And if he’s not fighting the big bad wolf for all the goodies, you’ll probably find him mingling in Berlin’s nightlife. He’s the one wearing the prettiest and most colourful sweater (editor’s note)!

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten? (We seem to remember an incident at the Dining Days ;-))?
Breaded bovine testicles. Paleo cuisine – not my cup of tea.

Your head or your gut?
Both – I hope to make the right choice in the given situation.

Truth be told, what would you have never done without alcohol?
Spend 8 hours in a beer tent at the Oktoberfest.

What is your ultimate hangover cure?
The ultimate cure? If I had one, I’d have sold it by now and we’d be having this conversation on my private tropical island.

How would you define luxury?
Having a free and thoughtless mind.

Are you a better guest or host?
I think I am a horrible customer – at least that’s what some waiters say.

What is your earliest childhood memory?
Me dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood for Fasching – my basket was bulging with sweets.

What did you dream of last night?
I’m quite certain I often dream of beautiful things. But unfortunately I can never remember anything when I wake up.

A penguin with a sombrero on his head comes into a bar and says:
Quit staring – the ice bear is wearing my top hat.

What music do you listen to after waking up in the morning?
Radio Paradiso – the most laid-back radio station ever.

With which famous person (dead or alive) would you like to go out for drinks?
I could tell you whom I’d like to go to bed with… I prefer going out for drinks with my friends.

If we came to visit you at home, what would cook for us?
Tea.

What are you afraid of?
Why should I be afraid?

When did you last try something new and what was it?
Next week: Paragliding

What should no one know about you?
That depends on the person. Knowledge is powerful and makes you vulnerable.

Which question should we have asked?
You could have given me the answer to the meaning of life.

Last Words:
They shouldn’t always be the last words.

Anna Deyerling

The 2 Minute Interview

Anna Deyerling loves Sofas. So much that she decided to make them herself. And they are brilliant! The label Sitzfeldt, which she runs together with her brother Clemens Deyerling and a common friend Julius Martini, does not only produce wonderful creations such as the red dot award winning Cube sofa – which with good reason has found its way into our lounge – but is also something like the land of milk and honey for the spoilt big-city-backside. Sitzfeldt sofas are lovely AND comfortable. That actually is rather remarkable. ;-) Perfect conditions should you be pregnant and forced to lounge around aloooooooooot. Speaking of which – Anna is about to have baby number two. We wish her all the best! P.S. How DO they all manage?
