Kerstin Michels

The 2 Minute Interview

Kerstin Michels has THE best job. For her employer Event Inc. she cycles through Berlin, Germany and the world to find the most wonderful locations, the best caterers and the most amazing agencies. Well, maybe it’s exhausting at times, but she gets to see a lot and meets tons of funny, bizarre, friendly and crazy people – us, for example. Kerstin says about herself that she is in a good mood ninety-nine per cent of the time, is good at refurbishing old furniture, and says „huh?“ all too often, at least when friends don’t stop talking about all their needs and worries but forget that she is deaf on one ear. Van Gogh feature! That´s probably why she missed the “Keep off the grass”-sign last time. Wait, that doesn´t make any sense! She really has got our heads spinning…

Name: Kerstin Michels
Age: 26
Location: Berlin
Occupation: Location Scout for Event Inc
Shoe size: 39
Favourite place: Marmolada on a sunny day
Kontakt: kerstin@eventinc.de

How did you celebrate your last birthday? Enjoying time with my favourite people. Unspectacular, but fantastic!

Berlin is…. Always exciting and always different. And sometimes it’s just a small village.

How do you spend a perfect Sunday? Either sleep-in and have breakfast in bed OR: get on my bike at 6.30 in the morning and cycle all the way from Friedrichshain to Grunewald and back again – while the city is still sleeping. And then have brunch. Either way, have a good breakfast!

Rules for a good party: A great location – what else am I to say!? But no matter how unusual the location might be – in the end it’s the people you spend the evening with that count the most.

What do you spend too much money on? Food, good drinks and old furniture. But that’s ok.

What quality do you value most in people? Honesty and the ability to accept criticism.

What is the current wallpaper on your phone? A picture of „The Rose Table of Perfect“ by James Lee Byars, taken during my last visit to the MoMA PS1 with Anne.

iOS or Android? iOS – I just can’t cope with Android. I have the Apple virus.

What is your greatest weakness? Chocolate and ice cream. Preferably both.

What is your contribution to help improve the world? Concerning co2: I always try to use my bike to get everywhere. Apart from that‚ I try to be considerate – it’s the small things that make a difference.

How does the “Keep off the grass” sign get on the grass? Ups, I’ve never noticed.

If we came to visit you, what would you cook for us? I wouldn’t cook anything at all. But my boyfriend would make sushi and homemade matcha ice cream.

What are you afraid of? I usually don’t find out till I’m afraid… and that frightens me!

When did you last try something new and what was it? Sneak Preview at the movies last Monday. Whiplash was showing – I probably would never have watched it otherwise. But I was completely hooked! I wonder whether I’ll be as lucky again next time.

What should no one know about you? Oh, there are lots of things no one should know. But of course I can´t tell you.

Which question should we have asked? Definitely not: What is your favourite thingamajig…

Last words: Should sometimes be left to others.

Felix Ermer & Viktor Dik

Felix Ermer & Viktor Dik

The 2 Minute Interview

Felix and Viktor are two thirds of the BROOKLYN SOAP CO. Together with Jonas, third man on board, they founded the currently freshest label around for natural men care after their extended stay in Brooklyn – hence the name. Once back in good old Germany, there were absolutely no cool and eco-friendly cosmetic products “for him”, so the boys just decided to roll up their sleeves and get their own hands dirty clean. Felix and Viktor are darn cool dudes – each of them modest, clever and really good company, but together they´re simply unbeatable. We’re already looking forward to seeing them again at our press event tomorrow at the Vater & Sohn store. We don´t really know what all of this has to do with Spiderman, the Rudi-Völler-Memorial-Hairdo or jam on toast. All we know is, that we are all very glad the idea for a self-rotating spaghetti-fork didn’t work out so well. That just would have been so much more impractical for hair care.

Name: Felix Ermer / Viktor Dik
Age: 25/ 26
Location: Hamburg
Occupation: Founders of Brooklyn Soap
Shoe size: F: 44, V: 42 1/3 in Air Jordans, 42 2/3 in Reebok Classics
Favourite hairstyle: F: Rudi Völler’s haircut at World Cup 1990 plus the muzzy. This look was ground breaking.
V: Business in the front, party at the back.
Contact: fe@bklynsoap.com / vd@bklynsoap.com

mmw_BKLYNSOAP1

What do you do first thing in the morning?
F: Have a shower.
V: Scroll. From emails to Spiegel Online to instagram to twitter.

Ever been to Brooklyn?
F: Sure, of course. Brooklyn is an unbelievably inspiring borough and the birthplace of creative entrepreneurship. Viktor and I began writing our concept for Brooklyn Soap there.
V: Yes! Six months on a bed-sofa and high life in Bushwick.

The most important piece of advice you’ve ever got?
F: Be ambitious but stay humble.
V: Not addressed to me personally, but from Michael Dell: If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

What do you prefer: clean-shaven or full-bearded?
F: Either way, keep it neat.
V: A well-groomed beard always works.

Who do you think is the most handsome man in the world?
F: I don’t like the word handsome. But there are a lot of good-looking guys: James Dean, Sean Connery aka James Bond, Lothar Mathaeus.
V: …probably Robert Redford – the only man that can pull off the “Great Gatsby” in a pink suit.

What brilliant idea would you like to have had?
F: Craigslist.
V: At the age off ten I had an idea for a self-rotating spaghetti-fork. Two weeks ago I actually saw that exact fork in a shop window just around the corner…Shoulda coulda woulda.

What´s the one thing you can do better then anyone else?
F: Improvise.
V: I´m really good at reverse parking and looking extremely cool at the same time. Working part time for a rental car company for two years finally paid off!!

What are you afraid of?
F: Having no way out.
V: Heights.

What’s next?
F: There are so many things coming our way at the moment, I can hardly name them all. There is development in all directions.
V: What is there to come after a self-rotating fork?!

Close your eyes and think of something nice. What comes to mind?
F: The evenings at Tipsy Parson, my favourite restaurant in NY.
V: The North Sea and tideland.Which language would you like to speak perfectly?
F: Spanish
V. According to my Xing profile I can speak Spanish and French at an intermediate level. Maybe I should start there?

Why can only women save the planet from doom?
F: Is that so? I have no idea.
V: No man on earth could ever look better in a Catwoman suit than Halle Berry.

If we came to visit you, what would you cook for us?
F: Pasta. And then I’d serve Zott Monte’s pudding for dessert.
V: Either apricot-filled Portobello mushrooms served on Camargue rice with peanut chutney and avocado truffles or – more likely – jam on toast.

When did you last try something new and what was it?
F: Just recently I sat through 6 hours of “The Nibelungen” at Thalia.
V: Netflix. Big mistake!

What should no one know about you?
F: I am Spiderman.
V: I’ve never let someone other than my mother cut my hair.

Which question should we have asked?
F: What’s your favourite colour?
V: What’s the difference between a duck? (www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6qycL-lNHc)

The last words:
F: Everything will be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.
V: “And everything you get, ya gotta work hard for it”. – Notorious B.I.G.

Name: Kevin Junk
Age: 25
Location: Berlin
Occupation: freelance writer
Shoe size: 44
Favourite quote: Do something. (Susan Sontag)
Contact: kevin@wolfauftausendplateaus.de

Apparently wolves have re-established themselves in Germany. Ever seen one? I grew up near the Eifel; there was a wolf park there. Great Animals. And I have little wolf at home, too.

What do you think is the greatest problem of your generation? Lack of humility.

Your favourite curse word? Scheiße.

Describe yourself in one sentence, please. A wolf on the outside, a bear on the inside.

Have got any hidden talents? When I’m drunk I’m really good at writing poetry – but only when texting my best friend.

What do you spend too much money on? Records. I’m trying to find a good balance between 70s disco divas, 90s techno and current releases.

Which forbidden thing would you do if there were no consequences? Bans never prevented me from doing things in the past. But I would eat a piece of cream cake because I actually have a milk allergy.

Which book should everyone read? My Tender Matador by Pedro Lemebel. It’s a novel about an attack on Augusto Pinochet in the late 1980s. The characters are incredible: the dictator’s crazy wife, the radical left wing macho, an old pansy… a great book.

Tell us a joke! Ah, I can’t on command!

Which piece of art would you like to call your own? Apollo and Daphne by Bernini. An impressive sculpture. (I did manage to immortalize the face of Daphne on my skin in form of a tattoo, at least.)

Which personality (dead or alive) would you like to have coffee with? Klaus Mann, the son of Thomas Mann. He wrote some great novels.

If we came to visit you, what would you cook for us? Ceviche. My partner taught me how to make it. He is from Chile. Although Ceviche is traditionally a Peruvian dish.

What are you afraid of? Having to tell a joke on command.

What would you change if you had the power to do so? Abolish gainful employment and introduce a guaranteed basic income.

What were you recently moved by? The death of Pedro Lemebel.

What should no one know about you?

That I sometimes buy things at Tchibo.

Which question should we have asked? What book I read last.
